Your question begs for a better answer but from my point of view the Progressive Era you are speaking of didn't start until President Obama and the Senate and House of Representatives got a majority of Democrats in power. This President is more centrist than progressive but from the Bush years which were extreme right wing politics, it appears he is a leftist. People aren't safe when the politics of the right seek war and act to protect corporations (including multinational corporations) over the interests of the people they are suppose to represent. The Bush presidency brought down many public interest laws which were in place to protect us, including laws that made or drinking water safe, laws which restricted polluting the environment, the air we breath too. The Bush years sold off much of our public land and they tried to grab our National Forests and sell the land to their wealthy contributors. They opened up our public land for strip mining and cutting the forests down. They drastically cut the budgets from the people that inspect our food and safety of the products we buy. By creating some prisons and torturing our enemies he empowered our enemies and made entire nations hate us and gave many the excuses they needed to join Al-queda to kill Americans and westerners. Torture is an ugly thing and should not be practiced by peaceful people plus, it has been proven to not work. Bush and his people allowed a huge shift of wealth away from the middle class and toward the wealthy class by giving them two giant tax breaks. This has led to the destruction of the middle class. Allowing our manufacturing and service industry's to leave the country and work establish themselves in other countries has also taken many jobs away from our people. Have you noticed how little stuff is made in the USA. There is quite a lot on the internet from facts you can gleam but much has been buried by the right. They don't want you to know the facts.
